When Warren & I moved to Colorado we had little to no connections.  When you move to a new state, it's not as simple as some may depict it to be.  It's hard on so many levels!! We all wish it was as easy as picking up and moving (those of you who have ever moved, ya get me!).
In an immensely trying (and legitimately terrifying) time in Warren & I's life, Emily and David McAllister gave us step by step processes.  They FLOODED all the important information for us whenever I asked (usually last minute, and almost always in a frenzy)!
They turned manyyy of our severe panicked moments into smooth plans for success. But my history with the McAllister's dates back to many years ago in my home town of Layton, Utah.

David & Emily McAllister were in our ward at our local church! Debbie (my mom) and Emily were assigned as companions to minister to other ladies in the neighborhood. At that time they had one child, Ethan which meant I had the opportunity to babysit! A few years later, Grace was born and shortly after that Logan!
Emily & David trusted me at a very young age.  They were one of THE ONLY couples that believed in me and my capabilities.  They taught me to believe in myself by giving me the opportunities to babysit, house watch and care for their pup Walt while away on vacation.

Emily McAllister was a huge influence for me as a teen (even still as an adult).
I'd timidly ask her for advice and her response was always FILLED with love, compassion, insight and deep respect.  Still almost 10 years later, Emily's caring heart and giving soul is unwavering.
Emily gave me MANY life coaching chats. Those long talks we shared, set me off onto a path that God always intended for me.

I (finally!) had the immense privilege to photograph the McAllister family these many many years later.
Ethan is 16 and starting his sophomore year. Grace is 14 and is in 8th grade and Logan is 11 going into 6th grade. David and Emily are celebrating 18 years together this October!

Emily said"There are certain individuals if that remind you of home" after I hugged & expressed to her how I'd missed her (y'all... I haven't hugged or physically seen Emily & her family in many MANY years).

THIS HIT ME HARD.

Home meaning not any physical place; something beyond measurement or earthly description.  I have always seen Emily as my second mom (my mom Debbie says the same exact thing) and she feels like home. Their FAMILY feels like home.
The McAllister family truly changed my youth through all the growth, love and opportunities they gave me.  The gratitude I have for them is insurmountable.
I'm so grateful for the God Guided path to my profession that always leads me to GOOD & AMAZING people like David, Emily, Ethan, Grace & Logan.
