Being a native Utahn I'd always heard alllll about the magical Salt Flats and never thought it was as close as it actually is. You know what I mean? This seemed to be one of those places that you see and think... 'yeah, looks cool and I know it SAYS it's in Utah, but i'm sure there is no way to really get out there'. You literally drive up, and out onto the salt! f you would have told me a few years ago that I would be apart of a styled shoot out here for the fun of shooting? I never would have believed you... Kennedy, Carleigh and Celeste were absolutely TROOPERS and some of the most fantastic models I have ever worked with! They don't look cold at all; smiling eyes, bright wide smiles and literally KILLING it; but I can assure you they were definitely shiveringggg as we all were!
This session actually came to my attention at the very last minute, and I am so glad that I was able to go! I literally got the call and message from Kristine Porter, got ready, jumped into my car, drove two hours out to the session, and had to leave before sunset for a previous engagement scheduled for later that day. I stayed maybe a total of 1.5 hours; But MAN was it worth it!
The experience shooting there was unlike anything I'd ever done. It is as unique and different as it looks! It even feels weird to walk on. The salt is like sand but spongy, and rough to the touch but soft under your shoes. It creates this insane shooting location at all angles, and there is something different it offers at every degree! Mountains, white salt, blue skies, insane sunsets, flat untouched earth, tracks, and so much more!I am so beyond happy that I got to experience the unique qualities and insane setting that is The Salt Flats.
Bonneville Salt Flats is one place that literally feels out of this world!! If you couldn't tell by the photos, it really is a place that seems to be from outer space. A lot of films were shot here, the most prominent one in my mind is "Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End".
I have looked up to Luke & Kristine Porter for over a year, and it was surreal to actually meet them, talk to them on the same professional level AND shoot right along side them! Love working with such talent from everyone in this session!
