What Photos should I choose to print? How to combat Decision Fatigue.
Ever looked at your photo gallery and wanted to print EVERY SINGLE PHOTO? Me too. It’s difficult to narrow down exactly which ones to print! I’ve put together 5 easy steps to follow to decide exactly which ones will work best for you! I am going to use our family photos from Fall 2018 as references to give you a better visualization of what we will be talking about!

1. Which photo make you immediately say, “I LOVE that one!” TRUST YOUR GUT!
As you are looking through your gallery, there are bound to be some that immediately stick out to you. The angle, emotion, pose or whatever it is that draws it to you? Be sure to OPEN & SET ASIDE. I know this can be difficult when you think to yourself ‘but I love them all!’ and that is where critical thinking comes in, as well as our next step!
2. Decide based on what you already have printed in your home! What photos have been on the walls for a while? What do they look like? Are they posed? Close up details? ( I tend to lean more towards lifestyle in the moment photos to print). Do you have any that you regularly look at that you don’t necessarily feel fits with the aesthetic with your home? Look at the photos you’ve now set aside that you’d like to print (the ones you LOVED) and compare them to what you already have. Do any of the chosen photos feel or seem very similar to what you already have up? Do they still bring life and light to the space?
For example, if you have a photo of your family that is all posed and smiling at the camera, contrast it with a NEW photo of you all playing together, hugging, tickling or walking! Create light, energy and movement in a space by changing it with contrasting photos! Print your new photos to be that SAME SIZE to replace the others. Why? I’ll share more on this next weeks blog!! *wink wink*

3. What if I can’t decide between a color or B&W? BE BOLD. IF your photographer gives you some black and white images and you can’t decide between the color or B&W because you love them both, (SEE what it does in the collection above? Its not the biggest or most posed but it draws your eyes RIGHT to it!) GO WITH black and white! The best way to utilize black and white photos is to have it be a statement piece. Statement doesn’t mean the big kahuna and focus of the room, but the one that makes you stop and draws your eye to it.
4. Rule of odd numbers when you choose photos! Thi is a great artists tool that I learned thoughout my art career. When it comes to photos and putting up collages of things on your wall? It’s more aesthetically pleasing to have odd numbered photos/ Art/ Wall hangings together! 1,3,5,7,9 etc.! Don’t be afraid to print 5 photos instead of 4 for a wall! Attempt to arrange them around the house to create a sense of flow instead of one heavy wall.
5. Ask your photographer! If you have worked so hard to narrow it down to 20 photos, and still need to narrow it down? Ask your photographer! I offer prints as apart of my client experience because I value your time, effort and want to ensure your future is filled with what matters most visible for all to see; not stuck on a drive somewhere that you need but can’t find. Your photographer should have the eye and expertise (even if they don’t offer prints) to help you figure out which ones to print!
There you have it! I hope this was something beneficial for you as much as it has been for me in my own journey! If you’d like to know more about exactly HOW to collage multiple pieces along with your photos? You’ll have to wait until next week! *wink wink!*
